🎓 Free Microsoft Office for Students, Faculty, & Staff

You get free access to Microsoft Office 365 Online, including:
– Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and Teams

(Downloadable version available for Class and Accessibility requirements)

To activate:

  1. visit: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/education/products/office?tab=students?tab=students
  2. Click Get Started
  3. Use your Murray State College Student Email
  4. Follow the setup steps to start using Office.

You’ll need to use your MSC email address to register!

Then follow instructions to create a password and get started downloading/installing Microsoft Office.

Computer Security Tips

 🔑 Accounts & Access

All students receive an MSC email, Microsoft 365 account, and Canvas login. Use your student email to access resources like Teams, OneDrive, and online classes. Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) for added security. If you forget your password, visit the password reset page or contact IT for help.

💻  Free Software & Tools

MSC students get free access to Microsoft Office 365 Online, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and more. Yuja is our Video Recording software you can be provided with access too for school business. Library Cards are available to the local Southern Oklahoma Library System. Which includes online resources for things such as Music, Movies, Audio Books and E-books.

📶 Using Campus Wi-Fi

Connect to MSC for full student access. Login with your MSC credentials when prompted. Guest Wi-Fi is available with limited access for visitors. Avoid streaming or gaming over the network during class hours to keep speeds optimal for everyone.

🤖  Responsible Use of AI Tools

Use of AI tools like ChatGPT must follow your instructor’s guidelines. These tools can support your learning, but unauthorized use on assignments may be considered academic misconduct. Always ask first if you’re unsure what’s allowed. Additionally, please be FERPA Aware when using any “AI” to ensure you don’t break the law.

📣  Digital Communication Expectations

Official college updates will be sent to your MSC email, Blackboard and/or when the need arises though our campus Safety App Campus Shield. Check regularly for messages about classes, deadlines, billing, and campus events. Not checking is not an excuse for missing information.

🏫  IT-Enabled Learning Spaces

Some classrooms are equipped with smart boards, video capture, and hybrid tech to support learning. Treat all equipment with care. If you experience a technical issue during class, notify your instructor and IT immediately.

Lock It When You Leave

– Press Windows + L to lock your computer instantly

– Log off /Sign Out when you are finished using a computer on campus.

Choose Strong Passwords

– Use at least 8 characters: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols

– Password Expire every 90 days.

– Never reuse passwords across different accounts or devices

General Ethics & Conduct

– Avoid cyberbullying, harassment, or impersonation
– Do not download or share copyrighted materials without permission
– Never use someone else’s login or personal data

🧠 Stay Aware of Cyber Traps

– Don’t click suspicious links or attachments — even from people you know
– Never respond to emails asking you to “verify” your password or login
– Always read privacy statements before sharing personal info
– Check your browser privacy/security settings regularly

💼 Portable Device Protection

– Don’t store sensitive data on personal or portable devices unless absolutely necessary
– Its Recommended to Always use encryption (full disk or individual files)
– Use strong, unique passwords on phones, tablets, and laptops
– Keep backups of all important files — don’t rely on a single device
– When not in use, store devices securely out of sight and preferably locked

⚠️ Policy Violations & Consequences

Students who misuse campus technology or violate the Acceptable Use Policy may face disciplinary action. This can include a warning, required training, temporary loss of access, referral to the Dean of Students, or more serious consequences for repeated or severe violations. Responsible, ethical use of MSC’s technology resources is expected at all times.
