Introduction

I have been teaching Information Systems for several years now using an Open Education Resources (OER) textbook assembled from several existing OER texts. Unfortunately, with the speed of technology advances, much of the material in these texts has grown stale and outdated.

I originally intended to update sections of the textbooks as necessary. Yet, upon close examination, the work would have been significant, and I began to consider writing a new text tailored to the course I want to teach.

Then, a new Artificial Intelligence tool was released to the world in November 2022 dubbed Chat-GPT. The tool accepts user prompts and produces well-written prose. I saw immediately that this could give my project a substantial boost. Indeed, I was able to produce this text in less than a month. But having most of the text written by an Artificial Intelligence, I cannot in good conscience take credit as the author. Being the person organizing the outline, choosing content, and writing the AI prompts, and editing the results into this book, I will take credit as the Editor.

I am actively using this text online and in the classroom and incorporating feedback from my students and gladly accepting suggestions for improvements from colleagues. Please feel free to email me at wood79@nsuok.edu with any questions or suggestions to improve the book.
