Where to cite
Generally, you need to cite in TWO places:
- In your writing where you
- Quote
- Paraphrase
- Summarize
- Use or refer to specific audiovisual representations (data, images, tables, figures, video clips, podcasts, performances, etc.)
- In a list of sources at the end of your paper, called
- References (APA)
- Works Cited (MLA)
- Bibliography (Chicago)
If you list a source only in the list of sources, it is a form of plagiarism.
For AI assistance, you may also need:
- An AI disclosure statement (often at the end of your paper or in a footnote)
- Specific notation at the point where AI was used
- A detailed description of how AI contributed to your work
Example AI Disclosure Statement: “This document was created with assistance from ChatGPT and has been reviewed and edited by [Your Name]. AI was used primarily for brainstorming initial ideas and checking grammar. For more information on the extent and nature of AI usage, please contact the author.”
