When we enroll in a course called, Small Group Communications, it is natural that our focus goes to the term communications. But what does that mean exactly? Doesn’t that just mean how we talk to one another? Are you feeling a bit like you enrolled in a course that is simply going to teach you how to speak clearly and kindly to one another? Well, Small Group Communications has much more to it than that.
In this chapter, we will cover what exactly small group communication is and why we study it.

a. Think of a time when you were put into a group to work on a specific goal or outcome. What were some of the attributes of the group that you feel made your team successful or unsuccessful?
b. With the group experience from above in mind, consider your part in the group’s success. What you would do again or what would you do differently in a future group? Share and compare your ideas with classmates.
