Composition I (ENGL 1113): Proposal Essay
We have completed a causal analysis and identified the causes of a problem. Now, for the third major writing assignment in the course, you will propose a solution or solutions for the problem you analyzed.
Essay Requirements:
Compose a proposal to solve the problem from your causal analysis
Include a contextualizing introduction paragraph and a summary conclusion paragraph
Have a proposal thesis statement (3-4 points) with body paragraphs that align with the thesis and that are appropriately developed (at least 5-6 sentences per paragraph)
Thesis statements can either propose 3-4 different solutions OR propose a single solution and give 3-4 reasons why it would be successful
Discuss each solution/reason and include source support for at least three of those solutions/reasons
Begin body paragraphs with topic sentences that include transition words or phrases
Cite and reference at least three sources using APA format
Additional sources allowed, as long as they are documented appropriately using APA format
Use correct grammar and mechanics, as well as vocabulary appropriate for a college-level assignment
❗Essays should be double-spaced and use Times New Roman 12pt
