About the Contest:
Cameron’s English Composition program, in the Department of Communication, English and Foreign Languages, is once again awarding prizes for the best work in some of the major assignment categories in Comp I (ENGL 1113) and Comp II (ENGL 1213). Winners receive cash prizes and the opportunity to have their work published in future editions of CU Write, the Cameron Composition Textbook.
Prize Categories for 2023:
- Critical Thinking Essay – especially Compare and Contrast
- Rhetorical Analysis
- Comp I Reflection
- Comp II Reflection
Submitted work must have been written for a CU composition course (ENGL 1113 or ENGL 1213) during the 2022 calendar year (Spring 2022, Summer 2022, or Fall 2022 semesters).
Students may only submit work in one category; one entry per person.

To Enter the Contest:
Submissions for the 2022 contest cycle are due by February 17, 2023.
To submit an essay, send the entry form (English Composition Essay Contest Form 22-23) and your essay to Cameron.essay.contest@gmail.com
Submit your essay in Word document format (.DOC or .DOCX); submissions must also include a signed and completed entry form in PDF format, submitted either typed with digital signature or as a scan of a printed and handwritten form.
You should read your instructor’s feedback on your essay and make revisions before submitting it to the contest. Proofread and edit your work carefully. Winning submissions will be copyedited before publication.
Awards & Ceremonies:
First place winners in each category will receive a $100 prize; Second place winners will receive $50. All winners will also receive a certificate and recognition at one of the following awards ceremonies in Spring 2023:
Winners will be announced at the English Composition Awards Ceremony, 3:30-5pm, Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in the Shepler Ballroom.
Winners from CU-Duncan or the Stephens County area can receive their prize at the Duncan Awards Ceremony, 3:30-5pm, Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, in Duncan 116.
