Fermentation Lab

Fermentation Lab (Face-to-Face Students)

Purpose: The activities in this lab will help you understand how yeast break down glucose in the fermentation process.

The lab assignment aligns with the following Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):

  • CLO 2: Apply the scientific methodology to the study of life and natural phenomena.
  • CLO 3: Explain the biochemical processes of life.
  • CLO 6: Apply biological concepts to societal issues.

Tasks: Read through the lab carefully and thoroughly.

Anaerobic Respiration: Fermentation in Yeasts

Video from Master Academic Video Collection: Yeasts gain energy from the food they absorb. It is processed through fermentation, a type of anaerobic respiration. Instead of creating lactate, yeast cells produce carbon dioxide and ethanol.
