Dr. Cynthia Keeton Brown is a dedicated nursing professional. Her background encompasses clinical practice, education, and research. Dr. Brown’s career path has included diverse healthcare settings, from medical-surgical to the specialized fields of home health and behavioral health. Her roles have spanned case management, clinical administration, behavioral health and telehealth RN, demonstrating her commitment to delivering quality care across various healthcare landscapes.
Dr. Brown’s commitment to mental health is demonstrated by using clinical experience to provide valuable insights into the unique needs of patients within this specialized area of nursing. Furthermore, her current position as a nursing faculty member at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College includes teaching mental health, highlighting her ongoing dedication to this crucial aspect of healthcare.
Dr. Brown’s passion for nursing education is evident she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi and a 2024 National League of Nursing/Southern Nurses Research Society Doctoral Research Awardee. Her research focuses on the intersection of social determinants of health and skill of involvement and the impact of both on nursing students and health equity in rural communities. She believes in empowering students to become compassionate caregivers who recognize the profound impact of these factors on patient well-being.
Most recently, Dr. Brown has been interested in teaching nursing students how to utilize AI and the humanities to evoke a personal philosophy of nursing that will inspire them to become patient advocates. Dr. Brown integrates the arts into her teaching to help students connect with the emotional and human aspects of the nursing profession. Her published works, including “The Incivility Solution: Tools to Foster Self Transcendence for Nurse Educators,” reflect her commitment to cultivating a respectful and supportive learning environment. Dr. Brown’s dedication to nursing, education, and research makes her a valuable voice in the field, and an inspiring mentor for future generations of nurses.
